HDBaseT Alliance Adds “Power Over HDBaseT”(POH)Capabilities To Its 1.0 Specification
Delivering 100 watts of power plus audio, video, Ethernet and controls over a singleLAN cable, HDBaseT is the first all-in-one connectivity technology to enter themarket place
BEAVERTON, Ore.—September 8, 2011— The HDBaseT Alliance, the crossindustryalliance formed to promote and standardize HDBaseT™ technology forwhole-home distribution of uncompressed high-definition (HD) multimedia content, today announced the release of the HDBaseT Alliance Power Over HDBaseT (POH)Addendum to the HDBaseT 1.0 specification. As demand for whole-home connectivitycontinues to grow, consumers face installation limitations and substantial cost asthey search for wall locations that can support and provide power access for theirconsumer electronics devices. HDBaseT technology with POH revolutionizes thenetworking industry, enabling manufacturers to build thinner and lighter TVs andproviding consumers the flexibility to install these TVs on any wall in their home, without requiring proximity to a power outlet.
About Power Over HDBaseT
HDBaseT’s breakthrough POH technology delivers up to 100 watts of power to TVsand other devices over distances up to 100m/328ft, via a single Cat5e/6 cable withstandard RJ-45 connectors. This means it is no longer necessary to connect adevice’s electrical jack to a power supply.
HDBaseT POH Benefits:
- Officially completes the 5Play™ feature set, adding power distribution to theunmatched offering of video, audio, Ethernet and control via a standard LANcable.
- Significantly reduces overall network power consumption, enabling theintroduction of new power-saving applications. Enables consumers to place components of their whole-home network in ideallocations regardless of electrical outlet availability.
- Simplifies and reduces cost of installation of consumer electronics byeliminating the need to employ an electrician.
- Assists manufacturers in their quest to design thinner and more cost effectivedevices that can be connected with a single cable by eliminating the AC-to-DCelements within the devices themselves.
