Valens Semiconductor is a leading provider of semiconductor products for the distribution of uncompressed high-definition (HD) multimedia content over longer distances and with higher reliability at lowest infrastructure cost.
The high-definition multimedia is one of today’s fastest growing markets with more and more consumers and businesses wanting to implement HD throughout their homes, workplaces and public forums. They are looking for a simple and effective way to connect multiple TVs, monitors and other display equipment with entertainment devices, such as Blu-ray DVD players, for in-home converged distribution of HD multimedia content. However, until today, most technologies have been limited in terms of power supply, bandwidth and uncompressed video support for longer distances.
Valens was established in 2006 with the vision to provide a full, all-in-one solution that would enable HD multimedia content including video and audio transfer over long distances; it would also provide internet, power and control signals all with a simple installation and at lower overall system cost. Within three years, the Valens team of professionals invented a breakthrough technology called HDBaseT™, the most advanced, cost-effective and easy-to-use solution for the distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. HDBaseT meets all the needs for long-reach connectivity of all multimedia devices with a single /328ft CAT5e/6 LAN cable. It is feature rich, optimized for video application, and offers 5Play — the convergence of uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals. At the beginning of 2010, Valens introduced to the market the Valens VS100 Product Family, the first set of chips fully compliant with the HDBaseT specification.

In January 2010, together with world-leading companies including LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Valens cofounded the HDBaseT Alliance to advance the adoption of this technology as the new global standard for advanced digital media distribution. The Alliance seeks to enable and promote rapid availability, adoption and implementation of cost effective, interoperable and standards-based HDBaseT products. The HDBaseT Alliance will engage key players across the consumer electronics and the content industries. The Alliance’s standardization activities will cover the entire value chain of the digital media ecosystem and the various market segments: TV sets, projectors, professional AV equipment, home theater, content providers, IT companies and more. Together with the Alliance, Valens is dedicated to broadening HD adoption and enriching the home and business entertainment experience.
